E-charting your way to fitness

Ah February, the warm month of bitter irony. What other time during the year do Trinis come out of a holiday season in which the major pastime is eating enormous plates of food and go directly into a season of skimpy costume-wearing? People have pounds to lose and they have to lose them quick. Well there is a great Web resource to help you make sure that you – and your stomach – jump and wave as one. It’s called Traineo.

Traineo is a social networking site for people wanting to get fit and healthy. Like most Web communities basic signup is free. But unlike sites like Facebook or Myspace, the Traineo signup page includes fields for starting weight and weight loss goal. From there new users get access to the site’s numerous resources – including diet tips, plans and recipes; exercise and training tips and plans; motivational tips (for those with problems keeping the fire burning) and of course access to a community of fellow fitness strivers.

But the main attraction of Traineo is its progression mechanism, which helps you track how well you are progressing towards your fitness and/or weight-loss goals. Traineo not only graphs your progress but projects where you should be in the future and tells you the calorie limit you need to set for yourself to get there.

How successful has Traineo been? Successful enough to get positive reviews all over the Web. CNET, About.com and many others have listed the site as one of Web’s best fitness resources.

So as the Carnival parties roll on and the big two days get closer, if you aren’t happy with how fast the Christmas poundage is dropping, maybe Traineo is the solution for you.
